paint and chrome - Harley Davidson Forums

Hey guys hope every one is ridin safe and having fun. I got a question. Had any one stripped paint off of there fenders and tank and just primered it? Also on my forks where the reflectors are and the wheel is hooked up has dicoloration and looks like its pitted but when you touch it it is smooth. Does any one know how i can fix this? Also i bought the bike used and the guy let it sit for atleast 6 months to a year and rust has developed on the chrome how can i get this off. I used never dull but it wont come all the way off on some parts. and lastly some of the chrome chipped and cracked. I have no clue how but is there anything i can do. Its on the engin and trans case. Thanks guys and sorry for the long post and all the questions. For the rust on the chrome you can use White Lighting from Napa that stuff cleans anything. You don't want to get any on the paint as it has acid in it but works go on break dust, grease and stuff like that. I had some of the same problems you were discribing on my bike when I got it and in spots where it don't matter to much I also used the orange GoJo with the pumice in it cause I didn't have the lighting. I used it on the belt cover on the back wheel, forks, and headlight cover where the rust was bad. Do need to be carefull using the gojo because it will scratch the chrome it is like sand in there. I would say use it in spots so you can tell before you go crazy with it all over the bike.
