Strauss workshops tailored for youngsters

Theater workshops and camps continue at Strauss Theatre Center next month beginnning with "School of Rock Poetry" presented by CA Studio.

The workshop is 4-7 p.m. July 11-15 and is a week of poetry writing/performance for ages 5-12. The week ends with a Friday night performance where the students read original or poems by other authors or perform, all set to rock music. Guest artist will be Adam Ryland. The fee is $100 per student. To register, call 791-3048.

July 18-22 from 4-7 p.m. is "Write Your own Play" with guest artist James Worton. For ages 5-12, students will learn acting and theatre skills and present student plays at the end of the week.

Youngsters ages 8-12 can learn the art of jewelry making with Polly Coleman July 4-7 p.m. 18-22. Cost is $125 per student. To register, call 791-3048.

From 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. July 18-22 is "Musical Aesop's Fables" with Kyle Zimmerman and Justin Hawn. It will be a production camp featuring rock and blues. Acting, singing and dancing as part of a new musical work to be performed the last day of camp for an invited audience. The camp is for ages 6-12 and is limited to 10 students. The month rounds out with "Blue Dog and Angel" Louisiana artists camp with Lou Davenport, noon-4 p.m. July 25-29. Call 243-3092 for information.
