Every Tuesday I bring you news from the worlds strangest stories, clear signs that the world as we know it is going to end and we're all going to be destroyed.  Tuesdays are a happy time for us at Ology.  Usually I throw in 3-5 articles that illustrate the bizarre times we live in, but today I thought I'd shake it up and give you a little something different.

First off I'd like to send my sincere "Get Better Soon" wishes to Harold Camping (that guy who said the world was going to end last month).  He has recently suffered a stroke and we wish for him to get better so that he can once again see the end of the world come October 21st.

Now that we got that out of the way, I wanted to dedicate this week's post to something that comes up in my "Apocalypse" research often.  It is a device which, before today, I knew nothing about.  All I knew that it was all science-y and important.  But once I read that someone in the future may have travelled back in time to mess it up (more on that later), I figured it was something that deserved some cred.

The Large Hadron Collider, or LHC, resides in Switzerland (I previously wrote Sweden, because it may be the same country...experts are looking into that) and France.  It is the world's largest and highest energy particle accelerator.  Basically it's made up of one giant circular tube in which protons are shot through them to collide with each other.  To quote National Geographic on the subject "You smash stuff together and see what other stuff comes out."  Studying these explosions, scientists claim, will make them understand the secrets of the universe, how we got here, why the sky is blue, and why sometimes your ears hurt when you drink cold water.

It's just basically made for the secrets of the universe thing.  Scientists are hoping that in studying the reactions of protons can give them a better understanding of the Big Bang Theory (and why that show is popular) and perhaps discover a new particle, called the "God Particle."

The "God Particle" (aka the Higgs boson) is a still hypothetical particle that is said to be the origin of all mass.  It's basically the thing that makes some things heavy and some things light.  If the "God Particle" is discovered, physicists claim that they can have a better understanding of the universe and unlock some of the secrets that have been plaguing the scientific community for decades.  Possible arguments to be settled are if the universe is three dimensional or ten dimensional.  What is ten dimensional?  It's linked up to the string theory, which basically claims that the electrons and stuff that make up an atom are one dimensional strings of different shapes that twist and turn.
