Hill returns home to be CHS head coach
&Ldquo;I love the game,” Hill said. “I love my community. I attended Higgins Middle School and I’m a graduate of Coahoma County High School and Coahoma Community College so I’m a product of the community. I’m back in my hometown. I hope I can do it through the grace of God and make a change. I hope I can change the culture here and get out there in the community and ease some of this tension that has been going on.” Hill, who succeeds Jason Broom, comes into the position with a great deal of head coaching experience. He began his coaching career as the junior high boys and high school girls head coach in the Lake View School District in Arkansas. He then went to Shelby Broad Street where he was the boys head coach for four years and most recently he was the Meadowbrook Middle School coach in Fort Worth, Texas for three years. “All of us together can help us get our young men back because we’re losing them at an alarming rate,” Hill said. “It’s an epidemic out here. We’re losing kids. We’ve got to do something like yesterday. Something needs to be done as soon as possible. A lot of us we’re all on board and we’re ready to do it. We’re going to make some things happen. Just sit back and watch.” “It is a hard transition going from coach-to-coach,” Hill said. “What I plan on bringing is stability. One of my goals for future reference is to start focusing on the junior high kids that are attending Higgins and Oakhurst and kind of get them used to seeing my face and me around, knowing my expectations so that’s going to make that transition smoother for them from the seventh to the eighth grade. For the kids now, it’s going to have to be real quick because we’re going to do a whole lot of work this summer. “I’m going to see this thing through. We’re going to turn some things around here, not just in this school, but in this community. A lot of people say, it’s about the kids, but really don’t mean it. I’m a man of my word. It truly is about the kids. Until I see a change in the community, I’m here for the long haul.” “Kids have been positive,” Hill said. “They’re respectful. You hear a lot of comments about these kids saying they’re bad kids. I have not had one kid come in and be disrespectful.Coahoma Community College - News
