St. Robert Police awarded medals of honor
The St. Robert Police Department, two members in particular, received multiple honors Monday, including an award from the American Police Hall of Fame.
At the St. Robert Board of Alderman meeting Monday, St. Robert Police Chief Curtis Curenton and Officer Trenton Herr were honored several times over, by both the City of St. Robert and the City of Rolla.
Rolla Mayor Bill Jenks III and Rolla Police Chief Mark Kearse attended the meeting Monday to give Curenton and Herr certificates of appreciation and medals of honor for their efforts in the pursuit of gunman Cody Wilcoxson, 31, in the May 12 incident which began on Fort Leonard Wood and ended with the suspect in custody in Rolla.
Curenton and Herr followed Wilcoxson's vehicle closely down Interstate 44, reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour and being shot at by an AK-47 rifle multiple times down several miles.
But the two were awarded a further honor, at the credit of three others in the St. Robert Police Department who took the time to nominate Curenton and Herr for recognition from the American Police Hall of Fame.
St. Robert City Administrator Alan Clark said the organization awards the silver star for bravery to those officers whose acts of courage go above and beyond the call of duty.
It is awarded for extraordinary heroism performed in the line of duty and was awarded to both Curenton and Herr on Monday night.
