Funeral arrangements set for firefighters killed in wildfire
An event originally set up to allow the Lake City community to show its appreciation for the firefighters who have been battling Florida's wildfires will also remember two who died fighting them .
Funeral arrangements for Division of Forestry firefighters Josh Burch and Brett Fulton also have been announced. They were killed Monday night fighting the Blue Ribbon Fire in Hamilton County.
A community-appreciation event was set to start at 6 p.m. today at the Deep Creek Community Center at 11934 N. U.S. 441 in Lake City.
Both men died after winds shifted and blew the fire over their bulldozer. State Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam called them "courageous heroes who sacrificed their lives for the safety of others."
Burch, 31, was a forest ranger from Lake City with a wife and two children, and had worked with the Division of Forestry for a little more than a decade. Fulton, 52, began as a welder with the division 12 years ago, then spent the last nine as a ranger. The White Springs man is survived by a wife and two children.

Forestry officials announced late Wednesday that Burch's funeral and burial are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Christ Central Ministries Church, 217 SW Dyal Road in Lake City. That will be followed by a graveside service at the Gateway Forest lawn Cemetery at 3596 S. U.S. 441. Fulton's funeral is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the same church, with no information available on the burial.
Forestry officials are accepting letters of condolence for the families. They can be mailed to: Family of Josh Burch or Brett Fulton, c/o Director Jim Karels, Division of Forestry, 3125 Conner Blvd., Tallahasse, FL 32399.
Two other forestry firefighters, Robert Marvin and Stephen Carpenter, suffered smoke-related injuries while attempting to assist other firefighters. Marvin is back at work, while Carpenter has taken a few more days to recuperate, according to forestry spokeswoman Annaleasa Winter.
