Mountaineers face must-win situation tonight at home
The Vermont Mountaineers will host Game 2 of their first-round New England Collegiate Baseball League best-of-three playoff series with Holyoke tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Montpelier Recreation Field. The Mountaineers dropped Game 1 4-3 in Holyoke last night, despite a late surge, coming from a 4-1 eighth-inning deficit. A loss tonight would end the season for Vermont.
A Mountaineer win would force a Game 3 tomorrow night in Holyoke. Right-handed pitcher Ryan Fasano will take the mound for Vermont tonight, hoping to improve to 4-1 this summer. He has won three of his last five starts and brings a 2.93 ERA into tonight's matchup. The Blue Sox will start Ben Mount, who has compiled a 5-1 record with a 1.36 ERA. Vermont is 17-4 at home, but dropped further below .500 on the road last night.
