C. Scott Rohm was appointed chairman of the Turnberry Hotel. For the past nine years, he was Senior Vice President Operations / Partner for the West Paces Hotel Group, and previously spent nine years with Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company.

Ed Mady is to join the Beverly Hills Hotel as Director General, succeeding Alberto del Hoyo, who is retiring after more than fourteen years at the hotel. Mady was most recently general manager of the New York Palace, a former Dorchester Collection hotel now owned by Blackstone. He was previously with Ritz-Carlton from 1988 to 2002.

Erwin Schinnerl is the new CEO of the Buckhead Ritz-Carlton.Originally joining The Ritz-Carlton in 1992 as Executive Assistant Manager Food and Beverage at the Ritz-Carlton in Boston, he was, since 2003, the Regional Director of the Ritz-Carlton Boston Common and Residences.

Philip Dailey joined the Andaz West Hollywood as Director General, succeeding Michel Morauw, who opened the hotel. For the last three years, Dailey ran SLS Sat Nazarian's in Beverly Hills.He was previously with Shangri-La for seven years as general manager for Shangri-La Chiang May and the Putrajaya Shangri-La.

Las Vegas Sands has appointed John Caparelli President of the Venetian, Palazzo and the Sands Expo Center. He replaces Rob Goldstein has been promoted to a corporate role as president of Global Gaming for the oil in January. Caparelli was most recently the principal of the home Redmont.

Martin Nicholson has been appointed general manager of Encantado in Santa Fe.

Sedona, Arizona: A Healing and Rejuvenating Destination

When life gets stressful or overwhelming, sometimes the best thing to do is to take a little time out. Visiting a bed and breakfast inn can often bring solace, and leads to a rejuvenated mind, body and spirit. Imagine stepping away from the hustle and bustle of daily living to relax in places that exude peace and quiet.

Consider taking a trip to a place you've never explored before. Sedona, Arizona, in red rock country, with its breathtaking landscapes, is an area reputed to provide their visitors with plenty of space to be by themselves. Les, the innkeeper of Canyon Villa Inn of Sedona at Bell Rock, conveys his description. "Sedona is like stepping off a planet to a make believe land. Sedona is beyond comfort. It is like being in a photo. It is the most restful, peaceful place, with a warm atmosphere, where visitors can have a fun time." Les continues,  "The sheer natural beauty of Sedona, and the peace here is inspirational."

Many writers have been inspired by these surroundings and musicians have composed beautiful music. Les told me that artists can be seen painting and drawing from their rooms and decks while gazing at Bell Rock. If this option seems a bit remote, don't fret. Many activities are available in the area, including shopping, performing arts, galleries, hiking, culinary classes, wine tasting, biking, tennis, excursions, golf and walking. Sedona is near water, which makes activities available such as fishing, kayaking, swimming and water sports. Sightseeing, tours, spa treatments, restaurant reservations and activities can usually be booked and taken care of by the innkeeper.

"Receiving a serious medical diagnosis like cancer changes ones perspective." Said a bed and breakfast guest from North Carolina.  "That's what illnesses do best; they change things."

Les, the innkeeper from Canyon Villa Inn of Sedona at Bell Rock shared with me that single women, suffering from exhaustion, visit his inn just to be alone. "They don't want to talk to anybody," says Les, "They go into a cocoon mode for a couple of days. They get recharged, then want to come out and meet new people."  Les says his guests bond with each other and make lifelong friends. Visitors exchange emails and keep in touch.

Right after losing family members - parents, husband, son, or best friend, some survivors have traveled to bed and breakfasts to find their center, and their souls. Medical patients who undergo arduous treatments usually find relief when they take a break away from doctors and hospitals. Survivors realize that they must no longer take their life or loved-ones for granted. They discover they can no longer put things like vacations on hold, because they are not really sure how many more opportunities they will have for vacations or for anything really. No one does, of course, but a serious illness delivers this message like a hard kick.
