The competition will be held on Monday, July 4, in the Gilbert Primary School Cafetorium as part of the Lexington County Peach Festival in Gilbert.

Entries will be accepted in two categories - desserts and salads/main dishes. All entries must contain at least two cups of fresh, locally grown peaches. Contestants are required to bring the prepared food to the cafetorium before 9 a.m. on July 4. Written recipes must be presented with each entry, and the name and address of the contestant must be plainly written on a separate piece of paper and presented at the time the dish and the recipe are delivered.

Dishes will be judged and available for pick up at 11 a.m. A $75 first-place award and $50 second-place award will be presented in each of the categories during the 11 a.m. program.

Other Peach Festival activities include arts and crafts, children's rides and a variety of foods - from hot dogs to pork barbecue to peach ice cream, cobbler and tea - available for purchase in Gilbert Community Park on Rikard Circle. A parade, three stages of entertainment, an antique tractor and farm equipment display, a car show and a fireworks show will be available free of charge.

Additionally, a Revolutionary War re-enactment will feature cannon firings at specific times of the day, and a reading of the Declaration of Independence will be held at noon.

The Gilbert Community Club has been sponsoring the Lexington County Peach Festival since 1958. The festival is held in Gilbert Community Park, with overflow activities at GPS and on the grounds of Gilbert Middle School.
